MIKE APPLEGATE and PETER SULLIVAN are local members of Iraq Veterans Against the War, founded in 2004 to give voice to the growing number of active-duty and veteran servicemembers who oppose the occupation of Iraq. The IVAW Warrior Writers Project provides tools and space for community building, healing and redefinition. Writing from the workshops is compiled into books, performances and exhibits that provide a lens into the hearts of people who have a deep and intimate relationship with the Iraq war. http://ivaw.org

MARC FALKOFF is the compiler and editor of Poems from Guantánamo: The Detainees Speak, an anthology of prisoner poetry published by the University of Iowa Press that brings together twenty-two poems by seventeen detainees, most still at Guantánamo, in legal limbo. Falkoff is a law professor at Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and the federal courts. Since 2004, he has represented 17 Yemeni prisoners at Guantánamo Bay. http://www.uipress.uiowa.edu/books/2007-fall/falpoefro.html
