W4tB presents Open Mic at the Bus Stop

Poetry Pot Luck is a concept developed by W4tB. It is a standard open mic, but you don’t read your own work. All poems are collected on a table, if you contribute one poem to the pot luck you can take one poem out, If you contribute three you can take three. It is an exercise in hearing your work as interpreted by someone else. It makes for a very interesting evening of poetry.
Participation is optional.

Topic: How to be a singer of your own work

It’s not “spoken word.” It’s not “slam.” It’s your heart. Out loud. Whether you are reading one poem to a friend, or putting together a longer set for an audience, there are ways to make sure everyone hears the essence of your work -- to make your poems come to life off the page once you’ve polished them on the page. I'll share some ideas about the use of music, body language, and the ways of some poets.....

Bring 17 or more copies (2 page limit) of a poem you want critiqued.*$5 - $10 donation appreciated.

This project has been partially supported by grants from Poets & Writers and the Illinois Arts Council.

The Beats January 13th

The Beats
Berwyn Cultural Center..
16th Street Theater
Berwyn Cultural Center
6420 16th Street
Berwyn, Illinois
Tickets $18

Beat poets took on 1950s mainstream America and brought it, kicking and screaming, into the 1960s. Marilyn Campbell’s adaptation of The Beats is directed by Ann Filmer. The play focuses on such writers as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka), Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Diane di Prima. A cast of five young actors digs into the words, ideas, culture, and lifestyle of the Beats, asking: Are we progressing? Regressing? And do we still have a love affair with the road?
